Department of Geography of Ukraine was founded in 1990 and was the first department of this direction in the history of the various geographical institutions in Ukraine. On the department successfully functions a scientific school of geography of Ukraine, established by a renowned Ukrainian geographer Professor Zastavnyi F.D.  The main research areas include: Ethnogeography of Ukraine (prof. Dnistriansky M.S., docent Lavruk M.M., prof. Lozynskyi R.M.); geography of population and geography of settlements in Ukraine (candidate of geographical sciences Hasuliak N.I., candidate of geographical sciences Labinska H.M.); Physical Geography of the Ukrainian Carpathians and Crimea (docent. Baitsar A.L.); Political Geography and Geopolitics (prof. Dnistrianskyi M.S., candidate of geographical sciences. Skliarska O.I.); historical geography of Ukraine (prof. Dnistrianskyi M. S., prof. Lozynskyi R.M.); complex regional geographical studies (docent. Lavruk M.M., prof. Lozynskyi R.M., candidate of geographical sciences. Hasuliak N.I., candidate of geographical sciences Stetsiuk O.V.); geography of tourism and recreational geography of Ukraine (prof. Lozynskyi R.M., candidate of geographical sciences Stetsiuk O.V., lecturer, Klapchuk O.O.); Geographic Area Studies (docent Lavruk M.M.); geographical education (docent. The department’s major 7.070501 “Geography”.

After passing the state exam bachelors obtain the qualification “Bachelor of geography. Geography of Ukraine “; After successful defense of a specialist thesis graduates obtain the qualification “Geographer. Teacher of Geography, Principles of economy and ecology. “After the defense of a master’s thesis students gain the qualification “Master of geography. Geography Ukraine. “

The department has nine faculty teachers and two training and supporting staff.

The structure of the departmentincludes the office of methodology of teaching geography and economy.
