Course description

“Basics of Urbanism” is a normative discipline in the cycle of professional training of bachelors studying in the educational program “Urbanism, Spatial Planning and Regional Development”. It is taught in the second semester in the amount of 3 credits (according to the European Credit Transfer System ECTS).

The curriculum of the course involves the study of urban planning basics – an interdisciplinary field that explores urban development.

After completing the course the student will know the most important concepts of urban planning, the main urban processes, factors of urban development, classification of cities, the most famous concepts of urban development, the world’s leading urban planners, get acquainted with the most popular scientific papers.

He will also receive basic information about the most important sciences that study the city: urban planning, geography of cities, urban economics, sociology of the city, urban history, municipal law and others. After completing the course the student will receive a theoretical basis for studying other disciplines of the educational program “Urbanism, Spatial Planning and Regional Development”.
