In Ivan Franko National University of L’viv, namely at the Faculty of Geography, a primary student trade union organization has been established and is operating at the current moment, the organization is included to the trade union of Scientific and Educational Workersof Ukraine and aims at representing and protecting students’ rights and interests.

Primary student trade union organization – is a voluntary non-profit public organization of students and postgraduates of the University, the aim of which is representing, conducting and safeguarding educational, social and economic rights and interests of organization members. Any full-time student of the University, who accepts the Statue of trade union committee for Ukrainian education workers, has applied to join the committee and arranges regular membership payment – can become a member of the local trade union committee.

The first student trade union organization of was established in 1957.

The members of the trade union organization have the right to:

-to have their rights and interests represented and protected by the trade union organization;

-to take part in activities and events, that are conducted by the trade union organization;

-to choose and bechosen to the trade union organization bodies at all levels;

-to receive financial assistance, subsidized recreational vacation packages,on the basis of the decision of the primary trade union organization, etc.

The members of the trade union organizationare obliged to:

-to acknowledge and perform statements referring to trade union organization;

-to pay membership fees on the regular basis;

-to take part in the activities of the trade union organization;

-to fulfill the tasks of the tradeunion organization bodies

Student government – student public organization, the aim of which is to solve issues related to student life. The executive body of the student government at the University isStudent council. Every Faculty has its representative. In Ivan Franko National University of L’viv there is a primary student trade union organization established in order to represent and protect rights and interests of the students. This organization is included in the trade union of Scientific and Educational Workers of Ukraine.Any full-time student of the University, who accepts the Statue of trade union committee for Ukrainian education workers,has applied to join the committee and arranges regular membership payment – can become a member of the local trade union committee. For every first-year student self-organization is an important step. We are always happy to have new energetic students, who are willing to work in a student team. The goal of Student council that belongs to the Faculty of Geography is to ensure students’ rights and interests protection; as for the learning process organization: to encourage educational, research and artistic activity of the students, provide appropriate living conditions for those who live in dormitories and organize students’ vacations, foster student clubs, societies, associations, circles; organize cooperation with the students from other higher education institutions and youth organizations.The members o fthe Student government actively at tendnationalandinter national student forums,take part in solving the issues related to student exchange programs that involve higher education institutions bothin Ukraineandinforeign countries. We help students in planning internship trips, in preparing for the research paper contests, for the Olympiads, sport competitions. The representatives of the Studen tcounci lare th emembers of the university academic council. According to the Ukrainian Higher Education Act and according to the University Statute,as well as in agreement with Student government body, the following decisions are made: to expel and reinstate University students, to grant government scholarships to eligible students as well as to deprive those whose academic record is below the required standard of the right to receive a scholarship and oblige them to pay tuition fees.
