Course description

Soils of Ukraine” is a discipline of professional and practical bachelors training in the specialty 103 “Earth Sciences” of the educational program “Soil Science and Expert Assessment of Lands”. It is taught in the seventh semester in the amount of 3 credits (according to the European Credit Transfer System ECTS).

Productive soils are the basis of agricultural activity, the spatial basis of placement agricultural production and its specialisation, providing the population with food, the subject and means of labor in agriculture and forestry, a component of the biosphere that regulates the state of the environment. Quantitative and qualitative characteristics of soil resources are the basis for establishing their use for the purpose of growing different crops, crop rotations, cultivation measures, implementation of protection measures and balanced use.

The aim of the discipline is to study the historical stages of soil research, soil formation factors and their impact on morphology, soil properties within natural areas of Ukraine, morphological features of basic soil types as a basis for their classification, physical and physicochemical properties, optimisation measures, legal provisions protection and balanced use of soil resources of Ukraine.
