Course description

The discipline “History and Geography of Football” is university-wide selective discipline for EPP bachelors, which is taught in the 3rd year in the 6th semester in the amount of 3 credits (according to the ECTS European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System).
The course is designed in a way to provide students with the essential knowledge necessary to analyze the historical and geographical aspects of the development and spread of football around the world and in Ukraine.

The aim of the discipline is to deepen knowledge in the field of forming and spread of football, in particular, the patterns of the emergence and development of football in the world and Ukraine, the most significant achievements of football at various stages of its development, its place and role in the context of world’s cultural heritage.

Upon completion this course, graduates will know: the history of the formation and geography of the spread of football; rules of the game and tactical schemes in football; the main events of the formation of football; the most famous figures (football players, coaches, presidents, officials); the main organizations involved in the development and popularization of football in the world and in Ukraine; socio-economic changes and trends in world and Ukrainian football; main stages of football development; biographical data of outstanding representatives of football in the world and in Ukraine; football tournaments at the level of national teams and clubs; football scandals and tragedies in different periods of football development; general trends in the development of Ukrainian and world football.
