Meeting of students of the educational program “Urban Studies, Spatial Planning and Regional Development” with representatives of the City Institute in Lviv

On September 7, 2021,  an introductory meeting was held for 1st-year students of the Department of Geography of Ukraine studying under the educational program “Urban Studies, Spatial Planning and Regional Development” with representatives of the “Institute of the City” of the Lviv City Council.
Maksym Terletskyi, the head of the international activity program, Mykhailo Lenchuk, project manager (both graduates of the Faculty of Geography) and Dmytro Shevchenko, project manager, spoke with the students.
Maksym Terletskyi spoke in detail about the functioning of the City Institute, its structure, and the main areas of work. He emphasized that a strategic vision and mission of development should be formed in each city through the joint actions of the authorities and residents. He also told about the ambitions of the city government to improve the urban environment of Lviv.
Mykhailo Lenchuk revealed the key points of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Program of Lviv, the approaches of the city authorities to tactical urbanism.
Dmytro Shevchenko told about educational urban planning programs organized by the Institute of the City together with international partners, and the specifics of their practical implementation.
At the end, the representatives of the City Institute outlined the opportunities of geographers in urban planning projects and their role in research, noted that the City Institute is ready for further cooperation, in particular, in the context of involving geographer students in its activities.
