Course description

The course “Problems of Waste Management” is an elective course in the cycle of professional and practical training in the speciality Geography for the bachelor’s degree, which is taught in the 8th semester in the amount of 4.5 credits (according to the European Credit Transfer System ECTS).

The purpose of this discipline is to master modern theoretical concepts of waste management, to form students’ knowledge about the diversity of modern waste production and consumption, effective innovative methods of waste management for balanced use of nature and nature protection.

After completing this course the student will know: the hierarchy of waste management, classification of waste by type, opportunities and modern technologies of waste recycling, modern environmentally friendly technologies of solid waste storage. The students will be able to apply the acquired knowledge in practice, to triage solid waste by fraction, to choose the most efficient ways of handling different types of waste, depending on regional characteristics, for balanced use of nature.
