Course description

The discipline “Computer technologies in student research” is a discipline of choice for the educational program of bachelors of all specialties at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv in SFCD system (student’s free choice disciplines), which is taught to full-time students in the 1st semester in the second year of studying in the amount of 3 credits (according to ECTS).

The discipline involves studying computer programs that allow to manage data and present them in a convenient for acquisition form. Students get tasks due to the specialties they study.

The studying of the discipline occurs in the following directions:

  • Instruments for PC administration, search and systematization of files.
  • Documents scanning and texts recognition.
  • Instruments for typing, formatting and editing of texts, tables, improvement of images quality in word processors.
  • Work with tables, creation and editing of diagrams in spreadsheet programs.
  • Development of schemes, creation and editing of maps, creation of business card, booklet in the program-editor of vector graphics.
  • Editing, improvement of raster images quality, creation of photo collages in the program-editor of raster graphics.
  • Instruments for creation and editing of your own video with the imposition of appropriate sound.
  • Creation of animation for visualization of dynamic objects and phenomena.
  • Theoretical aspects of the simplest web-page creation in html language.
  • Acquaintance with online scientific data resources.
  • Instruments and algorithms of presentation creation, objects animation and pictograms insertion in presentations.

As a result of the scientific discipline student will know:
Order of data operating in computer programs; peculiarities of the latest information-communicative technologies use; possibilities and the main spheres of modern computer systems application in education and science.
Student must also be able to: arrange and systematize information on PC; enter data in program environment; enter and edit text data; use modern network technologies for information search; graphically and statistically interpret data; transform and form quality photo and video materials; develop cooperation in scientific students’ research.
