January 13, 2025: First Scientific Seminar of the Department of Economic and Social Geography Named After Prof. O. Shablii – “Geographical Science and Education at the University of Greifswald”

On January 13, 2025, the first scientific seminar of the Department of Economic and Social Geography named after Prof. O. Shablii took place, titled “Geographical Science and Education at the University of Greifswald.”
The speaker was Associate Professor Olha Mamchur, who presented the results of her international research internship at the University of Greifswald (Germany), held from October 21-25, 2024, under the Erasmus+ program (Internship topic: “Improving Scientific Research and the Quality of Teaching Economic Geography at LNU,” supervised by D. Schiller).
The main directions of economic and geographical research at the Institute of Geography and Geology of the University of Greifswald were analyzed, with a particular focus on the two working groups: economic and social geography and social geography. The seminar also reviewed the content of monographs on the economic geography of Germany and Europe; economic geography of China, as well as the works of Drs. Daniel Schiller and Christine Tamasi on socio-geographical globalization and regionalism.
The speaker also discussed the peculiarities of training bachelors of education in geography programs at the University of Greifswald, which is a prominent center for training future geography teachers in the state of MeckLenburg-North Pomerania, including the curriculum and pedagogical practices, and the professional standing of secondary school teachers in Germany.
