Course description

The discipline «Soil Erosion Studies» is an initial normative discipline for students of the speciality 103 Earth Sciences of the educational program of bachelor’s degree, which is taught in the 3rd year in the Vth semester in the amount of 4,5 credits (according to the European credit transfer system ECTS).

The course is designed to acquaint students with the factors of soil erosion, properties and classification of eroded and soils vulnerable to erosion; measures to prevent erosion, as well as ways of rational use and protection of erosion-hazardous and eroded areas.

The purpose of the course is to acquaint students with the theoretical knowledge and its application. After completing this course the student will know the basics of assessing the danger of erosion and damage caused by erosion; basic anti-erosion measures to minimize negative processes; ways of rational use and protection of eroded soils. The students will be able to assess the degree of erosion degradation of soils; to interpret and analyze the results of field and laboratory studies of soil erosion.
